Complete and Current Projects

Below you will find some complete, some retired, and some in-progress projects I've worked on over the years. My projects consist of a collection of poetry, essays, short stories, websites, and whatever else I might muster up. I encourage you to read and visit anything that looks interesting to you. Some of my projects are highlighted below with my personal comments, or you can view all my projects using the links on the side of the page.

Poetry

Like most people who have a passion for writing, we each have some niche we are most passionate about. For me that passion is poetry. I think my particular attraction for poetry lies in its ability to express so much in such a confined area. You'll find with most of my poetry that I try to avoid confusing my readers with complexity, but just tell it how I see it.

Alphabet Soup

I made Love In Alphabet Soup is a poem I wrote that plays with the idea of eating Alphabet Soup. This is a fun poem that I hope people don't try to read to far into. I'm not really hooked on noodles despite the impression the poem might give.

Grandpa

This one is about my mother's father, or as I always called him, Grandpa. He was an interesting person to know to say the least. He wasn't perfect, but I see him as someone who added a bit of color to the world while he was here. Love him or hate him he was who he was.

No Bull

This is a light hearted poem. Something I pulled out of thin air. It's titled "No Bull" (although the whole thing is) and you'll just have to read it if you want to find out why it's called that.

Mini Flying Monkeys

This poem, "Mini Flying Monkeys", didn't really happen. The real reason behind this one was that it was just too hard to pass up writing a poem with such a great title in mind. Or maybe it did really happen. Just don't tell my mother.

Essays

Not nearly as imaginative in style as poetry, but perhaps more informative, I've written quite a few essays over the years, some of which I've decided to host here. These are the more interesting ones that I hope that encourage you to check out a movie you haven't seen or a book you haven't read, and think a bit more critcally about them then you might have. Or maybe you'll just find the essays in themselves interesting to read.

Donnie Darko

This essay titled, "Donnie Darko: Can Love Conquer Fear?" was for a film class I took during the fall of 2008. It examines the roles fear and love play in our lives and the effects it has on teens. If you haven't seen Donnie Darko you'll probably get a bit lost reading the essay as the movie has a rather peculiar take on time travel.

Frank Darabont Directs Prison Miracles

Another essay I wrote for the same film class I compared two of Frank Darabont's films The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption. I examined some of the religious elements of the film and the various filmic techniques used by Frank Darabont to create these films. The essay is titled, "Frank Darabon Directs Prison Miracles." If you've seen either of these movies this essay may make you think twice about what you remembered from the movies.

Short Stories

I'd have to say writing a good short story is my second passion in writing. Anything that really puts my creative mind to work is what I most enjoy. It is another opportunity for me to show off my humor, sarcasm and some of the lighter sides of life.

Who's Afraid of the Boogie Man

"Who's Afraid of the Boogie Man?" is a story that probably needs a better title, but I still don't have anything I'm happy with. It's a story about my brother and I and since my mother will probably read this story I'm not saying whether or not this is true. But Mom I swear I made it all up.

Old Projects

An old hobby of mine has been making website, or just making layouts for websites. They were all for fun, but at some point I found I could earn a little bit of income from Google Ads. It was nothing to incredible, but it let me know that there were people out there who I helped in some sort of way. At least I'd like to think that's what I did. Unfortunately none of them are still on the web. One day I'll come back to some of them, but for now I'll just look back on them fondly.

Final Portfolio

This is my final portfolio project that I did to complete my undergraduate degree at Arizona State University. You can find some of the work in other places on this site, but there is some stuff that's only available via this link. It essentially covers a wide variety of all the various things I studied while in school.

Dirty Monkeys

Dirtymonkeys.net was the first domain name I ever purchased. I couldn't tell you why I picked the name other than I have a love for all things monkeys. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't simply suggested from some random domain name generator type website. This site really threw me into the world wide web, and I'll probably never forget my time working on it. I remember the first piece of hate mail I recieved although I've long since forgotten what was in it. In May of 2005 the site was attacked by a hacker and most of the site was lost. As of this posting the site is still not in proper working order, although I still own the name.

Safe For Work Links

I went on a domain name buying spree one day, and I picked up this site. If you are familiar with internet acronyms you may already know what 'sfw' stands for, but for the uninformed it means 'safe for work'. The idea behind the site was to have daily links to entertaining media I found on the internet without having to worry about visiting sites inappropriate for work.

Chimp Labs

Chimp Labs is another purchase I made during my domain buying spree. I bought this with the intention of setting up a portfolio site to show potential clients that were interested in my web and graphic design. This probably one is gone forever, but this site essentially replaces that.
